ABSTRACT
The incidence of “Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus” (MRSA) as bacteria that cause nosocomial infection has increased all over the world. The main route of spreading of MRSA in hospital is the personal hygiene especially at contaminated nurse hand. MRSA could be acquired from direct contact with infected wound or clothes. MRSA can be transferred from hand to nose or the way around and then spread to throat. The aim of this study is to know susceptibility pattern of MRSA to several antibiotics.
The description method has been used in this study. The study has been done in 13 isolates from 13 nurses who work in 9 wards of surgical department of RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung in 2007. In determining susceptibility pattern of isolates to 14 antibiotics, Kirby-Bauer method has been employed.
Susceptibility test show that MRSA is a multi drug resistant bacteria. From 13 isolates, 1 isolates (7,6%) resistant to 6 antibiotics, 2 isolates (15,4%) resistant to 7 antibiotics, 2 isolates (25,4%) resistant to 8 antibiotics, 2 isolates (15,4%) resistant to 9 antibiotics, 3 isolates (23,1%) resistant to 10 antibiotics and 3 isolates (23,1%) resistant to 11 antibiotics from 14 antibiotics that were tested.
